The focus of this Learn to Skate Program is to teach Milton children, ages four and over, the fundamental skills required to become good skaters with the potential of developing an interest in the sport of ice hockey or figure skating. The goal of each participant is: " to learn and to be the best skater I can be." This is accomplished through easy to follow instruction, fun drills, and placing the children into groups by age and ability.
When
The program begins on Sunday, November 29, 2009 and runs through February 14th. All sessions will be held on Sundays at the Ulin MDC Rink in Milton. Boys will skate from 11 o’clock to 11:50 a.m. and girls will skate from 12 noon to 12:50 p.m.
Costs
The total cost for participating in the program will be $100 per child.
Requirements Residency - Participants must live in the Town of Milton.
Equipment
All boys and girls are required to wear hockey helmets. Bicycle helmets are not allowed. Please place a piece of tape with your child’s first name on the front of his or her helmet. Protection for the teeth is highly recommended. Boys are encouraged to use a protective mask (cage or visor). A good pair of proper fitting skates is important.
Helping Out
Interested parents and adults are welcome to help with instruction on a regular basis. They are also required to wear hockey helmets and are requested to contact Program Director, Bob Sweeney, at the first session.
Registration
This year registration is a new two step process. For the first step, parents need to register their child online with USA Hockey. To do this you can click the following link which brings you directly to the USA site: http://www.usahockeyregistration.com. Follow the prompts from there. There is an annual USA hockey registration fee of $30.00 plus a $ 5.00 “Affiliate fee” for all skaters over the age of 6. Payment is by credit card only. There is no fee for children age 6 or under but registration is still required. USA hockey will e-mail a registration confirmation number to you which you'll need to print out.
For the second step, you need to register with MYH at Ulin Rink. To do this you need to bring your child's USA confirmation printout to the Rink, fill out the necessary MYH information and pay the balance of the Program's cost. The amount payable to Milton Youth Hockey will be $ 100 or $65 depending on whether or not a USA Hockey/Affiliate fee was already incurred. Because of this new process and the anticipated large enrollment, parents are requested to take advantage of the pre-season opportunity to register at Ulin Rink on the following dates and times:
Monday, November 16, 2009 from 6:30- 8:00
Tuesday, November 17, 2009 from 6:30-8:00
Sheila Drain will be present at the Ulin Rink on the above dates to help with registrations and to answer questions. She will also be present at the first and second skating sessions to help with late registrations.
